YAMADA-KUN TO 7-NIN NO MAJO

Since finishing Bambino, I had felt a hole within me that no new manga I looked at could fill. And then I chanced upon this series, by the same author as Yankee-kun to Megane-chan, and this hole was no more. It had everything I was looking for in a manga. It was hilarious, heart-warming, and interesting. I especially liked how each of the arcs were fairly short and filled with happy endings. It makes it very fun to read. The most noticeable thing about the scanlation is the language. It’s almost like the characters are speaking with a 4Kids translated script. Was this something intentionally done by the author or the scanlation team? I have no clue, but it’s very amusing to read, and a breath of fresh air from the normal, mundane straight-up translation.

Back in high school, I heard about this video of a bird getting hit by a baseball on youtube. And I thought to myself, “What the heck is u2?” After seeing this today, I’m like “Ohhh, YOUTUBE.”

Bambino!

I have no idea how such a great manga can have such terrible covers. Like the first time I chanced upon this series, I immediately skipped over it because its cover art was so bad. I guess I learned my lesson of not judging a book by its cover. Anywho, this manga is awesome. The moment I started reading it, I was sucked in. Sure, the art’s not the greatest, but it’s fairly good and has that Jojo style-shading, which i thought was interesting. But the thing that really sets it apart from other series is its story. It doesn’t follow the cliched battle-style cooking manga, but instead pursues the chef overcoming life’s hurdles. Now life hurdles might sound boring, but the artist presents them in a way thats incredibly interesting. It’s really difficult to describe how it’s different, but it is! Ok, that made no sense at all, but whatever. I blazed through this manga in 3 days and even went into my sleep time  just to read it.

The sad part is that the scanlations have stopped with the end of the first part of the series. So the last 9 volumes or so haven’t been scanlated, which is truly unfortunate. It’s gonna be a ridiculously long time before the story reaches completion, so I hope that I can still remember the plot the next time I pick it up.

Oh, and most importantly, I’ve got this incredible hunger for Italian food now. Like I want to eat delicious pasta, but all the Italian restaurants around here suck. Seriously, I could sure use a Chicken Gnocchi right about now…

So apparently the Return of the Condor Heroes comics might actually be online. If you go to the following site:

http://eresources.nlb.gov.sg/browse.aspx?browse_by=A-Z

The I-Manga section claims to have the comics on their site. The only problem is that a National Singapore Library membership is required to access the materials, which I unfortunately do not possess. Is there someone (from Singapore) that can try checking out the site? I’m really curious to see if they actually have the comics there (which would be awesome).

Mediocre-good. I believe this sums up this anime pretty well. It had some interesting twists and revelations, but these could be seen miles in advance. The characters were generically generic, but likable. And the animation style was pretty good, but nothing special. Yet it was enjoyable to watch, for its ability to fit in mechs, slice-of-life (to some degree), and super serious plot into a 13 episode series. Oh, and go Chambers! You are one bad-ass pilot support system.

Yay, quality gag manga. When I first started this series, I thought it would be a romantic comedy between Funabashi and the Tea Club president. Turns out  it was a comedy manga revolving around delinquents in the Tea Club. Not that I have any problems with this. The cast of characters meld well together, and the manga is pretty funny. Actually, there’s not much to it besides being funny. I’m trying to think of something to write down here, but nothing memorable comes to mind. It’s like one of those series you read when you have nothing else to do and somewhat enjoy, before you completely forget about it 1 hour later. In summary, it’s not bad, its not memorable, but it’s funny.

Blurry picture much? Anywho, I’ve finally done it, I’ve reached the end of Monster Hunter.  Well, there’s technically no true ending, but I’ve finished what I’ve wanted to get out of this game. It only took 150 hours, but I am now sporting the L. Nargacarouga switchaxe and the Dire Miralis armor with the following skills:

  • Critical Eye+3
  • Attack Up (L)
  • Latent Power+1
  • Rock Steady

I’m the embodiment of death to any monster unfortunate enough to be targeted by me. I’ve felled nearly all of G-rank, as well as slaying Alatreon. There is no monster left that I cannot defeat. Yet at the same time, it feels kind of empty. With all this power, I no longer have a foe strong enough to challenge me. Anyways, it was a fun run while it lasted. I’m looking forward to Monster Hunter 4 in the far future, and praying that the underwater levels do not make it into the game.
